Jimmy Groves Berry

Jimmy Groves Berry, 74, retired employee of E. I. Dupont and Spontex corporations and resident of Cross Valley Drive, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kenneth Jarratt and Rev. J. Stephen Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late James Isaac Berry and Ruby Groves Church. He was a graduate of Santa Fe High School. Mr. Berry had received a degree in art and enjoyed working with charcoals and pen and ink landscapes. He worked as a chemical operator forty-two years, retiring from E. I. Dupont and also later retiring from Spontex. He was a member of the Nazarene faith. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, JoAnn Caperton Berry of Columbia; three daughters, Mrs. Jeannie (Wayne) Harris of Columbia; Mrs. Jill (Mike) Webster of Cross Bridges; Mrs. Julie (Kenneth) Jarratt of Madison, Alabama; one son, Jeff (Frankie) Berry of Columbia; one brother, Larry E. Berry of Hendersonville, North Carolina; one half-sister, Linda Gail Smith; eleven grandchildren, Jacob (Nikki) Berry of New York City, NY; Janean (Brett) Jones, Blake Harris, Jeannie Jo Webster, Jillian Webster, and Michael Webster, all of Columbia; Jim (Kelli) Harris of Christiansburg, Virginia; Quint Webster of Knoxville; Allen Jarratt, Katherine Jarratt, and Kayla Jarratt, all of Madison, Alabama; two great grandchildren, Brennan Berry of Sandy Hook; Macy Berry of New York City, NY; and his beloved pet, Abigail Blake. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey Berry. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be past employees of E. I. Dupont and Spontex, Dr. John Simmons, Frank Caperton, Jr., Sam Caperton, Paul Caperton, Roger Bobo, and Tony Praino. The family expresses a special thank you to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit and Third Floor Step-down Unit at Maury Regional Hospital and the staff of the South Wing at Life Care Center for their dedicated and excellent care.
