Jo Anne Robinson Powell, 89, resident of Perkins Lane, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at NHC Columbia. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. Riverside United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Norton officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 11, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Harry Robinson and Goldie Marshall Robinson. On October 10, 1947, she married James Franklin Powell who preceded her in death July 9, 2013. She was clerk for the State of Mississippi, the King's Daughter School, and John B. Wilson Insurance before retiring from Dr. Steve Simmons office as a medical transcriptionist. She enjoyed painting and bowling in a league with her husband. Mrs. Powell was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her children, Scott (Mary) Powell of Murfreesboro; Cheryl (Terry) Church of Columbia; Kelly (Norma) Powell of Columbia; grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Leonard of Columbia, Dr. Stephanie (Dr. Rod) Thomas of Lubbock, TX, Dr. Heather (Dr. Ashok) Asthagiri of Charlottesville, Virginia, Dr. Ben (Jada) Powell of Memphis, Wesley (Shelaine) Powell of Collinwood; and great grandchildren, Chelsea Leonard, Ashley Leonard, Jonathan Leonard, Katherine Thomas, Rodney Thomas, Cayden Powell, Saydee Mae Powell, Avani Asthagiri, Arjun Asthagiri, James Powell, and Jacob Powell.The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Simmons and Staff, Pat Anderson, NHC Columbia Staff, and Brookdale Assisted Living Staff.
