Joan Nicholson Maniccia

Joan Nicholson Maniccia, 76, retired teacher and resident of Mt. Pleasant, died suddenly on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Life Care Center of Columbia after a long battle with lung cancer.Born June 23, 1940 in Cortland, New York, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Nicholson and the late Effie Voultrous Nicholson. On September 17, 1960, she married Roger J. Maniccia who preceded her in death September 17, 1998. Joan earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at State University of New York at Cortland; and taught several years at Marathon Elementary School in New York. After moving to Tennessee in 2004, she enjoyed the outdoors and caring for her home.Survivors include her sons, Roger A. Maniccia of Columbia and John Maniccia of Mt. Juliet; and brother, George A. Papanikolaou of Athens, Greece.Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:30 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10:30 - 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Second Advent Seventh Day Fellowship, P. O.
