Mrs. JoAnne Thomas Young, 63, retired agent at National Life Insurance Co. and American General Insurance and resident of West 17th St., died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Leslie O. Thomas and Gertrude Dunnivant Thomas. She was an Executive Board Member of the Maury County Democratic Party. Mrs. Young was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Jerry Martin Young of Columbia; two daughters, Kimberly (Donovan) Weaver of Florida, Katrina Green of Columbia; a son, Zane Young of Huntsville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Chasity Hails, Brady Green both of Columbia; one great-grandchild, Austin Hails of Ohio; one sister, Carolyn (James) Fly of Hampshire; two brothers, Melvin (Aiko "Amy") Thomas of Ethridge, Ray (Margaret) Thomas of California; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Opaline Underwood, Shirley Young and three brothers, Elvis Thomas, O'Neal Thomas and James Thomas. Pallbearers will be Monty Gilliam, Wayne Harvey, Eddie Vaughn, Earl Johnson, Doug Mack and David Fly. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Boatright, Table of Knowledge members at Bucky's Restaurant, Friends at Grace Church of the Nazarene and members of the Maury County Democratic Party.
