JOE MACK BENDERMANJoe Mack Benderman, 75, retired school teacher and resident of Mack Benderman Road in the Scotts Mill Community, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kelley and Rev. Phillip Wright officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late J. Mack Benderman and Rena Brunson Benderman. He was a 1947 graduate of Hay Long High School, and graduated in 1951 from the University of Tennessee and later earned his Masters Degree. Joe taught agriculture in Maury County for thirty-five years. During this time, he coached football at Hay Long, was principal at Hampshire School and coached golf at Central High School. Joe also served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former Maury County Commissioner in the Porters Chapel District and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Maury County Retired Teachers Association and American Legion. Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Olivia "Libby" McClain Benderman of Scotts Mill Community; one daughter, Susan Benderman of Columbia; four sons, John Benderman and his wife Rita; Randy Benderman and his fiancée Rhonda Hayes, Mack Benderman, and Mark Benderman, all of Scotts Mill Community; one sister, Dale B. King of Columbia; one brother, Kenny Benderman and his wife Teresa of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Jillian Benderman of Cookeville and her fiancé Travis Quillen of Decatur, Alabama; Diana Rooker and her husband Chris of Lynnville; Kim Foster of Scotts Mill Community; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Rooker, Caleb Rooker, and Kayley Rooker, all of Lynnville; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Andrew King, Chris Rooker, Wesley Benderman, Tommy Benderman, Marlin Arnold, Richard Callahan, Randall Rummage, and John Waldrum. Honorary pallbearers will be Maury County Retired Teachers Association, Adult I Sunday School Class at St. Luke United Methodist Church; former agriculture students, Jimmy McClain, Hugh Peery, Hardy Loyd, Harold Hardison, Ed Cox, Billy Evans, Paul Sands, Morris Boshers, Andy Yu, Jack Brunson, Frank Duncan, Doug McClain, Walton Chappell, and James "PeeWee" Colvett.
