Joe Sam Savage, 89, retired employee of Maury Farmers Co-op, farmer and resident of Dry Fork Road, died Friday, February 16, 2018 in Columbia.Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born November 8, 1928 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Olney Farris Savage and the late Evelyn Tucker Savage. He married Norma June Foster Savage who preceded him in death September 26, 2013. Mr. Savage enjoyed being a beekeeper and the Savage family is one of oldest continuous families of beekeepers in Maury County. He was a member of Cathey's Creek Church of Christ, where he was an elder. Survivors include his sons, Joe Gwynn (Shirley) Savage of Mt. Pleasant; Dwight Foster (Ronna) Savage of Hampshire; grandchildren, Brian (Kiah) Savage; Holly (Eric) Runions; Sam Savage; Rachel Savage; great grandchildren, Brysen Savage; Riley Joe Runions; Lane Foster Runions; sister, Barbara (Arthur) Hume of Oxford, Mississippi; brother, James Allen (Doris) Savage of Columbia; and sister-in-law, Joyce Savage.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Wren Savage.Active pallbearers will be Brian Savage, Eric Runions, and Sam Savage. Honorary pallbearers include David Foster, Joe Foster, Randy Garrett, Ray Garrett, Ronnie Johnson, staff of NHC Columbia, past and present employees of Co-op, and elders of Cathey's Creek Church of Christ.
