Joe Hagey Scott, 79, Maury County Commissioner and retired Maury County Circuit Court Clerk, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Judge Bobby Sands officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Maury Regional Healthcare Foundation, 1223 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia 38401. Scott and Ida Wilkin Cole Scott and a 1947 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army stationed at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky with the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. Following military service, he returned to Columbia and worked as a wholesale groceryman with Charles C. Parks Company. He later was associated with Norton & Steeley Company for 25 years. Mr. Scott was appointed to serve as Maury County Circuit Court Clerk in 1980. He was elected to the position for three more terms until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the first graduating class of Tennessee Certified Public Administrators from the University of Tennessee. He was first elected Maury County Commissioner in 1998, representing the first District. He continued to serve in that position until his death. Mr. Scott was a member of First United Methodist Church, Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Al Menah Shrine Club, Columbia Elks Lodge, Maury County Kiwanis Club, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, and Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Over the years, he loved to spend time fishing and playing golf. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jewel White Scott; a daughter and son-in-law, Marvanne and Thomas Baker of Primm Springs; a niece, Shirley (Billy Hugh) Link of Waverly; a nephew, Miller G. (Carol) Bass, Jr. of Knoxville; three great-nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Scott Bass. Active pallbearers are Tom Hardin, J. B. Napier, Shelby Carpenter, Charlie Mann, James R.
