Mr. John Sam Blalock, 83, retired 30 year employee of Monsanto and resident of Crestland Drive, died Monday, June 20, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Faith Freewill Baptist Church, 1611 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN, 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the son of the late Enoch C. Blalock and Addie Mai Ring Blalock. He was educated in Marshall County. He was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Blalock served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #31 and loved fishing and playing his fiddle. Survivors include his devoted wife of 63 years, Olivia Campbell Blalock of Columbia; loving twin daughters, Mickey (Randell) Dooley and Vickey (Terry) Locke both of Columbia; two sisters, Ruth Doggett and Mildred Chandler both of Columbia; three grandchildren, Kevin Dooley and Jeffrey Locke both of Columbia, Elisa Locke of Spring Hill; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Locke and Paige Locke both of Columbia; and one nephew, Phil Doggett of Colorado. Pallbearers will be David Brady, Michael Brady, Billy Ray Campbell, Herschel Campbell, Jeffrey Locke, Kevin Dooley and Sonny Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ewing Neelley, Shelby Carpenter, Mrs. Dot Alverson, R.P. Lanius, Bill Beattie, Bud Haskins, Dr. Moataz Toban, Dr. James B. Kelley, Enoch George, Ashley Brown, his church family at Faith Freewill Baptist Church, members of Masonic Lodge #31 and retired employees of Monsanto.
