Mr. John David "Johnny" Carter, 60, retired owner-operator of Johnny Carter Flooring and a resident of Theta Pike, died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital after a hard and determined fight with cancer. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Barry Farris officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He operated Johnny Carter Flooring until his retirement in 1997. A friend to many and a stranger to few, he had his own way of making people laugh. As a caring and wonderful father, he taught his children how to be successful in life while maintaining their values and respect for other people. He was a loving husband for 33 years and lived life to its fullest. He was preceded in death by his father, John Kirby Carter of Columbia; a step-father, Edward M. Kindel of Franklin; a brother, J. Kenneth Carter of Nashville and grandparents, Dr. Dave Cagle and Ludie Tates Cagle and John Carter of Nashville. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise Weber Carter of Columbia; his mother, Willie Rue Cagle Carter-Kindel of Franklin; five children, Vickie (Ted) Morrow of Culleoka, Glenn Carter of Nashville, Michael (Tonia) Carter of Lynnville, Johnna (David) Cole of Culleoka, Jay K. (Monica) Carter of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Jon Morrow, Hunter Morrow, Jared Carter, Justin Carter, Alisha Carter, Aaron Carter, Eric Carter and Carson Carter; a sister, Kay (Ray) Simons of Brentwood; nieces, Kim (Allen) Poovey of Germantown, Karen (Mike Easley of Rockvale; nephew, Sean (Ami) Simons of Franklin and life-long best friend, David Sandlin of Columbia.Pallbearers will be Larry Pigg, Gary Tannehill, Ed Jones, Paul Fann, Chet Robson, Jim Patterson, Neal Goodman, Luther Head, Larry Temples and Danny Whitaker.
