Mr. John Demastus, 87, resident of Windsor Drive, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Williamson Medical Center. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10 - 12 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Demastus and Annie Lou Rieves Demastus. On June 25, 1940 he married Mary Pal Kirk originally of Selmer, TN. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Demastus owned Home Furniture in downtown Columbia. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Pal Kirk Demastus of Columbia; two daughters, Linda Anderson and Sandra (M.D.) Henslee both of Columbia; five grandchildren, James (Melia) Anderson of Mt. Juliet, Dan Henslee of Columbia, David (Michelle) Henslee of Hermitage, Kirk (Pamela) Anderson of Nashville, Jessica Demastus; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, John Kirk Demastus, three brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons, James Anderson, Dan Henslee, David Henslee, Kirk Anderson, Chase Henslee, Justin Henslee, Chris Henslee and Ryne Anderson.
