John Elwood Davis

November 19, 1912 — April 10, 2008

John Elwood "Pa Pa" Davis, was born November 20, 1912 to the late Maury County Davis and Lucy Stamps Davis and passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 10, 2008. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Harvel Stockard and Rev. Clark Albright officiating. Burial will be in Knob Creek Cemetery adjacent to their farm. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. and Monday after 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to the Knob Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Tim Fitzgerald, 1209 Hunters Point Lane, Spring Hill, TN 37174. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. Mr. Davis was born at Neapolis and attended Carters Creek Station School. He grew up on farms in this area of Maury County. As a farmer's son, he continued this occupation throughout his life. On April 28, 1934, he married Frances Mayberry Davis who preceded him in death on November 14, 2007 after 73 years of marriage. A longtime resident of the Knob Creek Community, he was a farmer, dairyman, and raised beef cattle in his later years. He enjoyed cultivating the land, planting, and harvesting the crops for his cattle and enjoyed community-wide events with friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Knob Creek Baptist Church since March 3, 1951 and taught his family to try and do the right things in life. He was also a member of the Maury County Farm Bureau and Maury Farmers Cooperative. Survivors include one son, John L. (Kay) Davis of Columbia; two daughters, Carol (Jerry) Walters and Barbara (Charles W.) Keltner, both of Columbia; one sister, Sue Frances Wilkie of Columbia; six grandchildren who will always keep him in their hearts as "PaPa", Sammy (Tammy) Walters, Michael (Dana) Walters, Monica (Scott) Elias, and Johnifer (Michael) King, all of Columbia; Deric William Keltner and Kimberly (Phillip) Pullen, both of Spring Hill; nine great grandchildren, Tori Elias, Sophie Elias, John Michael King, Rachel King, Ryan Walters, Katie Walters, Jonathan Walters, Blake Walters, and Tyler Pullen, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Davis and Clyde Davis; and five sisters, Anna Mae Jones, Marie Hill, Louise Haywood, Katherine Mahon, and Leuna Harris. Pallbearers will be Sammy Walters, Deric William Keltner, Michael Walters, Scott Elias, Michael King, Phillip Pullen, Stanley Mahon, Gary Harris, and Arnold Wilkie. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Knob Creek Baptist Church, residents of Knob Creek Community, Joe Roberson, Jerry Wayne Erwin, Mason Turner, Charles & Betty Turner, David Howell, David & Elizabeth Hartman, Tony & Paulette Isabel, J. W. & Patricia Hargrove, Claude Fitzgerald, Eddie Gray, Marlin Church, Dr. Doug Kennedy, Dr. Janice Vinson, Dr. Charles Atnip, Rodney & Mindy Shaw, and special friends at McDonalds.
