John Jennings Garman, 50, professor at Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University and resident of Montgomery, Alabama died Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Magnuson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 8, 1966 in Hamilton County, Tennessee, he was the son of Richard W. Garman, Sr. and Patricia Simpkins Garman. He graduated from Bloomington High School in Illinois, received his juris doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Law, and received his LL.M. in European Comparative Law at Faculté de droit d'Aix-Marseille in Aix-en- Provence, France. After practicing law in Nashville, he taught undergraduate law at David Lipscomb University. An avid musician, he was a fan of Drum Corps International and has played upright bass with the Goat Hill String Band and several other bands. He was a private pilot and had his Amateur Radio expert class license. Mr. Garman was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Richard and Patricia Garman, he is survived by his wife, whom he married July 27, 2001, Rhonda Mayse Garman, of Montgomery, AL; and brothers, Dr. Richard (Patty) Garman, Jr. of Brentwood, and David (Deborah) Garman of Murfreesboro. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Garman Au. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Garman, Jr., David Garman, Paul S. Varner, Gregg Murphy, Fred Clements, Aaron Peters, and Patrick Reed. Honorary pallbearers include Montgomery Amateur Radio Club members, and faculty and staff of Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.
