View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast John Harold Vernon, 62, retired employee of the Maury Regional Medical Center Cafeteria for 25 years, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his residence on Bigbyville Road in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral home with David Thomley and Dale Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family requests that all in attendance to follow CDC guidelines on social distancing and facial covering is required. Born March 3, 1958 in Maury County, he was the son of the late James Harold Vernon and the late Joyce Elaine McMinn Vernon. He was a 1977 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Mr. Vernon was a wonderful loving husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed volunteering with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for 12 years, where he was a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 369 and Assistant Boy Scout Troop Leader for troop 114. Mr. Vernon was a member of College View Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, whom he married June 16, 1984, Rebecca Keren Bates Vernon of Columbia; son, Jeffery Harold Vernon of Columbia; brother-in-law, Jonathan Bates; sister-in-law, Deborah (Terry) Skillington; a niece, nephew, and several cousins. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Bates, Dale Lindsey, Hunter Lindsey, Britt Hanes, Dale Truitt, and Jeff Truitt.
