View Funeral Webcast View Video Tribute John Herbert “Johnny” Jewell, 69, co-owner and operator of Tennessee Valley Packing Company and lifelong resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at St. Thomas West. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Vince Greer officiating. Burial will follow in Stand Cemetery in the Shady Grove Community with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born December 4, 1951 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Richard Eugene Jewell, Sr. and the late Sarah Corinne Herbert Jewell. At the age of 8 years old, Johnny began working at Tennessee Valley Packing Company, where later he became co-owner and operator. During the Vietnam Era he served in the Tennessee National Guard for six years. With a need for speed, Mr. Jewell enjoyed fast cars, boats, and earlier in life riding Harley’s. Mr. Jewell was a member of the National Rifle Association, Maury County Gun Club, and enjoyed target shooting. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, whom he married August 24, 1991, Margie Mai Nall Jewell of Columbia; son, John C. “Chuck” (Regina) Jewell of Columbia; daughters, Jenny Rebecca Jewell of Columbia; Vickie (Billy) Butler of Santa Fe; Lesa Andrews of Santa Fe; brother, Richard “Ricky” (Jennie Grace) Jewell, Jr. of Columbia; grandchildren, Devin Lawwell, Isabella Jewell, Kaylee Osborne, Olivia Shaw, Chase Cribbs, Savanna Monhollen, Will Monhollen; great granddaughter, Maggie Cribbs; nephew, Smith Jewell; niece, Elizabeth Freixo; aunt, Rosa Hester of Hendersonville; numerous cousins; and his devoted German Shepard, Mac. Active pallbearers will be Smith Jewell, Darrell Pruitt, Chase Cribbs, Jeff Potts, Donny Whitaker, and Tommy Logue. Honorary pallbearers include Billy Butler, Craig Taylor, James Bennett, Jr., David Williams, and past and present employees of Tennessee Valley Packing Company.
