John Fred Houston

John Fred Houston, 69, former owner/operator of Merle Norman Cosmetics and resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 5:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Proctor officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrenceburg native was the son of the late John Milton Houston and the late Cleo Yeager Houston. He was a 1966 graduate of Columbia Central High School where he played football. A cowboy at heart and talented musician, he toured fifteen to twenty years with his "outlaw country" music band. He enjoyed reading the Bible and studying Christian Theology. Survivors include his son, Cody Houston of Lincoln, Nebraska; and daughter, Jillian Houston Bennett of Unadilla, Nebraska.
