John Waverly Jackson, 75, retired owner and operator of Crozier Oil Company, died Thursday, December 27, 2018 surrounded by his devoted wife and loving children. John donated his body to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for research to help others with similar medical conditions. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday at 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral home with Dr. Paul W. Bauer officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Polk Memorial Gardens. A Maury County native, he was the son of the late John Overton Jackson and the late Mary Elizabeth “Bibs” Goslin Jackson. He was a 1962 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a graduate of Tennessee Technological University. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, Al Menah Shrine Temple, and First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a ruling elder. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling the world extensively with his wife, Joan. Although he and his wife had traveled throughout the world, including cruising the Volga River in Russia and Yangtze River in China, the place he loved most and held dear to his heart was their river home on the Tennessee River. Survivors include his wife, Joan Wells Jackson of Columbia; son, John Waverly (Stephanie) Jackson, Jr. of Columbia; daughter, Kimberly Mills (Michael) Trew of Columbia; sister, Cassandra “Sandy” Jackson Lowe of Jamestown, Tennessee; brother, William Peebles “Billy” (Joyce) Jackson of Columbia; grandchildren, Ashley Jackson, Paige (John Carter) Green, Tyler Powell, Wells Tyler Trew, Brittany Malone Trew; great grandchild, Laila Powell; aunt, Martha “Bitty” Jackson Crozier of Columbia; and niece, Beth Anne Jackson.
