MR. JOHN W. LUNAMr. John William Luna, 85, retired from Maury Amusement Company since 1981 and a resident of the Santa Fe Pike, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at NHC Hillview. For 35 years, he and his wife owned and operated Luna's Antiques.Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Telford Tharp officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Army in the European Theatre of Operation including Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe as an airplane engine mechanic with the 997th Batallion. He was awarded five bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.Survivors include his wife, Jane Caldwell Luna of Columbia; step-daughters, Fran (Morris) Givens of Columbia and Delilah Mingledorff of Sarasota, Florida; nephews, Alvin (Melinda) Luna and Lewis (Patsy) West of Columbia; great-niece, Mary Amanda West of Mt. Pleasant; great-nephews, John Tyler (Dawn) Luna and Reagan West of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Mildred N. Moore of Columbia; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Verna West and Lillian Luna and brothers, Clifford Edwin Luna and Elgin Tyler Luna.Pallbearers are William Ellis, Alvin Luna, Tyler Luna, Woody Givens, Tony Click and Morris Givens.
