John Michael Nagy III, 62, a resident of Cornersville, Tennessee ended his journey on earth on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee.
His family will visit with friends on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home 320 West 7th Street Columbia, TN 38401. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. Memorials may be made to a horse rescue of your choice.
John was born on October 18, 1961 in Taylor, Pennsylvania to Dorothy Pearage Nagy and the late John Michael Nagy Jr. He graduated in 1979 from North Pocono High School and continued his education in nursing becoming a LPN. He moved to Nashville and started to work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1996 as an operating room nurse who was cross trained to scrub and assist in surgeries. In 2003, John was on a team that pioneered robotic surgery at Vanderbilt. He was also very proud to participate in medical student stimulation programs at various medical colleges including Meharry Medical College.
John never met a stranger! He had a way of turning coworkers into friends, and friends into family. John was a shining light and source of love and humor to all who knew him! He was a very accomplished musician playing saxophone, clarinet, guitar, and the piano. He had another passion that was his horses that were very dear to his heart.
After leaving the medical field, he was an extra in numerous Hallmark and Lifetime TV channel movies as well as streaming channels and the big screen. Some of his favorites were Tell Me a Story, Emmitt Till, Bootcamp, Woman of the Movement, and Unsung Hero. John was a huge Reba McEntire fan and was in her movie Christmas in Tune.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Nagy of Springbrook Township, PA; sister, Jacqueline (Michael) Yalch of Nanticoke, PA; brother, Brian (Denise) Nagy of Moscow, PA; nieces and nephews, Kayla (Mike) Sokolas, Brian “B.J.” Nagy, Michael (Megan) Yalch, and Cassandra Yalch; great nephews, Lucas Sokolas and Rhys Yalch.
John’s mom, sister and brother would like to thank Andrew, Rhonda and Sara for the exceptional care and support they provided to John and them during this journey. They also want to thank the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center for the attentiveness to not only John’s need but also theirs. “You have set the bar very high for any medical staff!”, from the family of John Nagy.
