View Funeral WebcastSpecialist John Matthew Rittenberry, 22, employee of Tennessee Army National Guard and resident of Brown Hollow Road, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 as the result of an automobile accident. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Randall Hendley and Troy Hendley officiating. Burial will be in Neapolis Cemetery with military honors provided by Tennessee Army National Guard. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of Barbara Fitzgerald Rittenberry of Columbia and the late Elmer Lee Rittenberry, Jr. He was a 2006 graduate of Tennessee Technology Center of Nashville. John was an avid outdoorsman and loved all sports. He was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Daniel Lee Rittenberry of Columbia; one nephew, Nathaniel Lee Rittenberry of Columbia; uncle, Jimmy (Linda) Fitzgerald of Columbia; and cousins, Michael Harvey of Smyrna, Timothy (Michelle) Fitzgerald of Spring Hill, James (Sarah) Fitzgerald, Christy (Byron) Peery, Anderson Van Bibber, Hannah Fitzgerald, Haleigh Fitzgerald, and Harper Fitzgerald, all of Columbia, Christopher Harvey and Katelyn Harvey, both of Smyrna; and several great aunts and great uncles, Louise Anderson, Roy (Doris) Dye, Clint (Jane) Fitzgerald, all of Columbia; Juanita (Will Frank) Woody, Sr. of Santa Fe; John (Joanne) Fitzgerald of Hermitage. Pallbearers will be James Fitzgerald, Timothy Fitzgerald, Justin Burns, Michael Wiss, Cory Southall, Ronnie Adkins, and Andy Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Unit-Troop B Regimental Support Squadron 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, former teammates of Spring Hill Little League and Spring Hill Babe Ruth, Zion Christian Academy Middle School, Santa Fe High School Baseball teams, Daniel Baker, Jan Neal, and Byron Peery.
