John Dennis "Buddy" Rodgers, Jr., 42, electrician with Harlan Electric, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at his residence on Hopewell Road. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. David McGregor officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native attended Culleoka schools prior to moving to Alabama where he graduated from Holly Pond High School. He earned his Associate Degree from Columbia State Community College and was placed on the President's List for his academic standing. He later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from ITT in Nashville. He served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader and loved his dogs. Survivors include a son, Nathan Rodgers; his father, John Dennis Rodgers, Sr. of Culleoka; sisters, Rebecca Rodgers Patterson of Columbia and Lacey Kaye Rodgers of Crossville; aunts and uncles, Carolyn and Wayne Hickman, Jimmy and Ellen Rodgers, Sharron and Gary Smith, David and Norma Walls, all of Columbia; a niece, Chelsea Patterson and nephews, Cody Patterson and Jacob Patterson; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nina Lee Walls; paternal grandparents, John Windsor "Wink" Rodgers and Maron Jeter Rodgers; maternald grandparents, David Walls and Elma Walls; and brother-in-law, Robert Patterson. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
