Mr. John W. Satterwhite, Sr., 88, long-time resident of Sheegog Lane, died Monday evening at Maury Regional Hospital following a stroke. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church , where he had been a member for more than 60 years and served as both a deacon and elder. Dr. Bill Williamson and Rev. Maggie Beamguard will officiate. The family will visit with friends Thursday in the church parlor from 12:30 p.m. to service time and for an hour following the memorial service. Mr. Satterwhite was born in Erin, Tennessee, the eldest son of the late Janie Hurt Satterwhite and Louis G. Satterwhite. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater anti-aircraft battalion under the command of General Douglas MacArthur. Following the war, he worked as an accountant in both Columbia and Nashville for the Tennessee Valley Authority. After his retirement from TVA, he and his son, John W. Satterwhite, Jr. farmed together for 20 years. He was an avid sportsman all his life.His wife, Jane Sheegog Satterwhite, died December 15, 1998.Survivors in addition to his son include a daughter, Carol Jane Satterwhite; three grandchildren, J. William Satterwhite, III, Katherine Satterwhite, and Laura Satterwhite; and a much-loved daughter-in-law, Argie Satterwhite, all of Columbia; a brother, Louis G. Satterwhite, Jr. of Athens, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
