View Funeral Webcast John Wilbert Snowden, 85, former resident of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 1, 1936 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph Snowden and the late Verna Mae Hamilton Snowden. He was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Penn State University. In 1962, he married Jeanne Averill Snowden who preceded him in death in 1969. For 40 plus years, Mr. Snowden and his wife, Dixie owned and operated Snowden’s Hallmark Cards and Gifts in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, loved fishing, and was an avid Penn State football fan. Survivors include his wife, whom he married July 27, 1976, Dixie Lee Worthington Snowden of Columbia, Tennessee; children, Joseph (Kim) Snowden of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Scott Howard of Jacksonville, Florida; Nancy (Michael) Clark of Columbia, Tennessee; Scott (Michelle) Snowden of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; James Howard of Indianapolis, Indiana; Heather Snowden of Memphis, Tennessee; Brandi (Don) Kartzmark of Ponte Vedra, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Prentiss.
