View Funeral Webcast View Video Tribute John William Satterwhite, Jr., 66, of Indian Camp Springs Road left this life for his eternal home with Christ on June 11, 2019 from Vanderbilt University Medical Center following a spinal cord injury while doing what he loved --- working on his farm. His celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 15 at 3:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Len Carrell officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday, June 14 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Farm Bureau State Office, 147 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401. Born October 6, 1952, John was a 1974 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a degree in Agricultural Science. After spending five years as a Farm Manager in Richmond, Virginia, he returned to Columbia and in 1980 took over the family farm. Keeping a six-generation farming tradition alive on land his ancestors had walked for over 100 years ago, John found his work “inspiring”, saying he was “living my dream.” From those dreams Satterwhite Farm has become known for hay, tobacco, cattle, a Fall Festival and Christmas Trees. But, more, John Satterwhite was known for a good tale, a conspiratorial wink, a humble heart, and the abundant love he bestowed on all. John is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Argie Flautt Satterwhite, children Will (Katie Leigh) Satterwhite, Katie Satterwhite (Justin) Odom and Laura Satterwhite (Kenneth) Hughes, grandson Oaklee Odom, and step-grandsons Kasin and Kamdin Murillo. In addition to his late parents Jane Sheegog Satterwhite and John William Satterwhite, Sr., he was preceded in death by his sister Carol Jane Satterwhite. A recipient of the Century Farm of the Year Award, John sat on many Boards of Directors including the Maury County Farm Bureau, Maury Farmers Co-op, and NaCoMe Camp and Retreat Center. He was an Elder of First Presbyterian Church and served on the Youth Fellowship Committee. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to First Presbyterian Church, 801 South High Street, Columbia, TN 38401 or the NaCoMe Camp and Retreat Center, 3232 Sulphur Creek Road, Centerville, TN 37033.
