Joseph Edward "Joe" Reischman, 79, resident of Mooresville Pike, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Davis Chackaleckel officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with a Rosary Service to follow at 7:30 P.M. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shane Reischman Memorial Scholarship Fund at Heritage Bank & Trust, 217 S James Campbell Blvd., Columbia, TN 38401. Born November 12, 1938 in Williamson County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Joseph Sebastian Reischman and the late Edna Evers Reischman. In April 1974 he married his loving wife of almost 44 years, Marie Roberts Reischman, they grew up next door to each other in Westover Park in Columbia. Proud father of Todd, Heather, and Shane. Cherished "Papa" to his seven grandchildren; Walker, Tyler, Rylee, Hayden, Hunter, Kendall, and Gunner Reischman and special pet, Ginger. He was a 1956 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended 4 years of college at Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army from 1963- 1965, where he was stationed in Omaha, Nebraska. He worked as a produce manager for Piggly Wiggly and then retired after 34 years at Stauffer Chemical Company as supervisor. After retirement, he drove a public transportation van for Maury County for 16 years. Mr. Reischman was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church, where he was of strong faith and cared more for others than of himself. He never met a stranger and always left you with a smile. Mr. Reischman served multiple terms on both the Maury County School Board and the Maury County Commission for the 8th and 9th districts. He continued to serve on the Southern Railroad board. He was later honored for his service to the Culleoka Community with the naming of Culleoka's practice gym in his honor. He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Reischman; brother, Dennis Reischman; and nephew, Mark Reischman.In addition to his loving wife, Marie Roberts Reischman; his children, Todd (Darlene) Reischman; Heather Reischman; and seven grandchildren; survivors include his daughter-in-law, Tricia Reischman; brothers, Bill (Jean) Reischman; Tom Reischman; and Sonny (Connie) Reischman; sisters, Mary (Sr Joseph Marie); Betty Howard; and Cheryl (Dan) Edlin; sister-in-law, Kay Reischman; nephews, Mike Reischman; Jeff Howard; John Reischman; Robert Reischman; Chris Reischman; Nick Reischman; Chris Sims; Brent Roberts; and Greg Roberts; nieces, Jennifer Thompson; Jessica Fogarty; Sara Frye; Amanda Skelley; Mary Beth Spaulding; Allison Roberts; Beth Sims; Jennifer Anderson; Kristi Daughrity; Karen Roberts; and Stephanie Baucum; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Active pallbearers will be his grandson, Walker Reischman, and nephews, Mike Reischman, Jeff Howard, John Reischman, Robert Reischman, Chris Reischman, Nick Reischman, Chris Sims, and Brent Roberts. Honorary pallbearers include former co-workers of Stauffer Chemical Company, Maury County Public Transportation, and colleagues from the Maury County School Board and Maury County Commission. The family would like to express a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Dr. Janice Vinson's office, Dr. Charles Ball's office, and Dr. Mark Messenger's office as well as the nurses at the infusion center at Maury Regional Medical Cancer Center, along with the nurses and doctors at Maury Regional Medical Center.
