Joseph C Fortenberry

Mr. Joseph Cephus "Joe" Fortenberry, 87, retired school janitor in the State of Arizona and resident of Vaughn Road, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Sunday at Pleasant Mount Cemetery with Scott Sullivant officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Thomas Newton Fortenberry and Maggie Burline Poland Fortenberry. He had made his home in Tennessee for the past eight years and was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Flora Ree Baker Fortenberry of Columbia; one son, Tom (Janice) Fortenberry of Columbia; one step daughter, Anna Dunlap of Grand Rapids, Michigan; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Scott Sullivant, Jim Patterson, Craig Allen, Corey Goodgine, Clay Goodgine, and Tommy Allen.
