Mr. Joseph Ronald “Ronnie” Woody, 76, resident of South Bigby Drive and retired from Spontex & E. I. DuPont, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 at NHC Columbia Health Care. Funeral services for Mr. Woody will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Baxter and Carl May officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.  The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born October 13, 1942 in Florence, Alabama he was the son of the late Robert Aaron Woody II and the late Kate Rieves Woody.  He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1960, and enlisted in the United States Army on October 18, 1965. He served in Vietnam with the 14th Transportation Battalion and was awarded the Vietnam Service medal and the Good Conduct medal and was honorably discharged October 8, 1967. On April 5, 1969, he married JoAnn Pierce Woody, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2009.   He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 19 and served as Commander in 1995, and former Chef de Gare in 1988 for the Forty and Eight Voiture Locale 1394.  Mr. Woody coached softball and soccer and was a very avid UT football fan. Survivors include his son; Joseph Houston “Josh” (Kathy) Woody of Hampshire; daughter Anna Kathryn Woody of Columbia; brother, James Ross (Marsha) Woody of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Frances Elizabeth Woody of Columbia; four granddaughters, Grace Woody, Scarlett May, Sara Ann Woody and Lily Jo Woody. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother; Robert Aaron Woody III. Pallbearers will be Josh Woody, Robin Staff, Brian Adams, Jim Underwood, Michael May, and Ray Woody.  Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 19, the Forty and Eight Voiture Locale 1394, and retired employees of Spontex & E. I. Dupont. The family suggests memorials to the 40 & 8 Nurses Training Scholarship Program, 1394 Voiture Locale, P. O. Box 152, Columbia, TN 38402.
