Elizabeth Juanita Lannom Martin, 92, former longtime resident of Carol Drive and more recently Morning Pointe, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 13, 2018, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Mike Kesler, John Smith, and Andrew Altenbach officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born June 18, 1925 in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Newbie Wilson Lannom and the late Deadie Denny Lannom Terrell. On February 21, 1942, she married Robert Hayes Martin who preceded her in death January 18, 2014. They moved to The Hampshire Community in Maury County in 1947 prior to moving to Columbia in 1955. Mrs. Martin was an excellent homemaker, cook and gardener. She particularly enjoyed sharing many beautiful flowers and home-grown vegetables with friends and neighbors. Her true delight was in nature, especially studying, watching, and listening to the interesting and lovely songs of birds. She was a longtime member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ, where she taught the Virginia Parks Sunday School Class for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Altenbach of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Janet Martin of Columbia; sister, Ellen Sue (Wayne) Thompson of Culleoka; grandchildren, Matthew Hayes (Cara) Martin of Nashville, Andrew Martin (Julia) Altenbach of Boston, MA, and Jill Allison (Brad) Mitchell of Columbia; and beloved great grandsons, Henry Matthew Altenbach and Reed Anderson Mitchell. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Wayne Martin. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Morning Pointe for their patience and kindness in caring over the last two years.
