View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mrs. June Montgomery Layne, 88, a long-time resident of Columbia, died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services for Mrs. Layne will be conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service. The family asks that anyone attending follow the social distancing and CDC guidelines and facial coverings are required. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born November 21, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Bruce Montgomery and the late Eula Marlin Montgomery. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1950. On May 2, 1953 she married Chester Eugene “Satch” Layne who preceded her in death on June 11, 2005. Mrs. Layne was a homemaker and spent countless hours working with her husband on the farm. She was a former member of West Point Presbyterian Church where she played the piano for over 40 years and was a current member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Layne (Todd) Blocker; son, Michael Eugene (Kathy) Layne; grandchildren, Stacey (Brandon) Jackson, Christopher (Mallorie) Layne, Lindsey (Michael) Johnson, Kelsey (Heath) Slatton, and Katie Blocker; great-grandchildren, Will Jackson, Cooper Jackson, Ema Claire Layne, Abby Johnson, Rhett Johnson and Lawson Layne. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce Montgomery, Jr. and Bill Montgomery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
