SPC Justin Keith Woods, 20, resident of Bear Creek Pike, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 in a swimming accident. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Pulaski Pike with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. Pete Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery with military honors at graveside provided by the Tennessee National Guard. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to New Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church, 3863 Highway 431, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was a 2006 graduate of Spring Hill High School and a member of the Junior ROTC program attached to the school. Following graduation, he entered the Tennessee National Guard and was assigned to Boot Camp in Maryland. Attached to the 1175th Transportation Company, he served 18 months in Kuwait Camp Arijuan, and returned home from his tour of duty on May 11, 2008. He is survived by his parents, Sharon Burns and Allen Dale Woods of Columbia; sister, Candace Woods of Columbia; brother, Brandon Woods of Columbia; maternal grandparents, Eddice Sneed Burns of Spring Hill and Robert Burns of Columbia; paternal grandparents, Beverly Kimbro and Bobby Woods of Columbia; maternal great-grandmother, Katherine Sneed of Columbia; maternal uncles, Eddie (Becky) Burns and Ronnie (Rachel) Burns of Columbia, Jerry (Fay) Burns of Lynnville, and Mike Burns of Lawrenceburg; paternal aunt, Tammy Woods (David) Lemay of Columbia; several cousins, great aunts, great uncle and special friends. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Beulah and Earl Woods; paternal great-grandparents, Lucille and Dewey Kimbro; and maternal great-grandfather, Rev. John H. Sneed. Members of the Tennessee National Guard and Spring Hill Junior ROTC will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Tennessee National Guard, Spring Hill Junior ROTC and Spring Hill High School Class of 2006.
