Mrs. Karen Freeman Copeland, 55, registered nurse, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at her residence on Sherry Drive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kelley and Rev. Ron Brown officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Anderson County native was the daughter of the late Sam Freeman and Helen Anderson Freeman. She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Mrs. Copeland was employed by the Maury County School system before graduating from Columbia State Community College with a degree in nursing. Following her graduation she was employed by Williamson Medical Center for thirteen years. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of thirty-six years, John G. Copeland, Sr. of Columbia; two children, John G. Copeland, Jr. of Columbia, and Mrs. Alicia (Richie) Hickman of Culleoka; one sister, Mrs. Marie Toon of Oak Ridge; and two grandchildren, Blake Hickman and Madison Hickman. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Freeman. Pallbearers will be Buddy Harlan, James Harlan, Kenneth Pitts, Derek Estes, Ronnie Pitts, Ed Lucas and David Upchurch.
