Mrs. Kathleen Fay Akin Coates was born in Columbia, Tennessee on April 25th, 1939 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 20th, 2024 at the age of 85.
The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Pleasant Johnson and Kathleen Dever Akin, both of whom were from Maury County. Kathleen graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1957 and went on to receive a BS degree in psychology and later, a nursing degree from Austin Peay State University. She worked as a school nurse in the Montgomery County school system and later as a psychiatric nurse at Maury Regional Hospital.
Kathleen was married to the love of her life, Thomas E. Coates, who preceded her in death on February 17, 2015. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Tommy (Connie) Coates, Cindy (Whit) Duncan, and Andy Coates; eight grandchildren; Charlie, Cassie, Allie, Grace, Olivia, Addison, Andrew and Kristin; and six great grandchildren; Wesley, Carter Thomas, Claira Grace, Nylie, Siah and Whitney James. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, William Ryan Coates.
Kathleen had a passion for helping people and she never met a stranger. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother who loved the Lord. She will forever be missed but now she is finally home.
A memorial service will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church at 11 AM on June 29th, 2024 with Reverend Tommy Vann. The family will visit with friends prior to the service at the church. A private inurnment will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com
