Mrs. Katie Lee Langley Mathis, 89, long-time resident of Brown Hollow Road, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev Billy Hill, Rev. Donna Higginbotham, and Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was a 1934 graduate of Woodrow School and a member of the girls' basketball team. She graduated in the 1936 Class at Central High School and did substitute teaching at Woodrow School for several years. Mrs. Mathis was a long-time member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.She was married February 24, 1940 to Houston L. Mathis who preceded her in death November 2, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann (Bobby) Jones of Columbia; two sons, Jimmy Wayne (Judy) Mathis of Culleoka and Gary Houston Mathis of Columbia; four grandchildren, Michelle (Matthew) McBride of Murfreesboro, Jimbo Mathis of Culleoka, Tony (Rod) Hinson and Kim (John) Workman of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Peyton Workman, Dallas Workman, Justin Bowling, Madison Hinson, Ty Hinson, and Madison McBride; half-sisters, Rachel Kannon of Mt. Pleasant and Margaret Flodene of Nebraska; half-brother, Billy Langley of Lewisburg; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Paul Carpenter, Johnny Carpenter, Bob Baldwin, Gordon Robert Baldwin, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Jimmy Grimmitt, Clifford King, and Ernest King. Honorary pallbearers include members of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, Danny Cleveland, and Culleoka Volunteer Fire Department.
