Katie Virginia Brasher Scribner

Katie Virginia Brasher Scribner, 93, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted friend, departed this world for a better place on November 16, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend B.J. Bolton officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter, 1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401 or South Central Tennessee Development District Aging Services, 101 Sam Watkins Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 14, 1924, in Decatur County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Elison Cleveland Brasher and the late Myrtle Altom Brasher. On February 26, 1944, she married Leonard Watt Scribner and their sixty-year marriage ended with his death on April 12, 2004. For several years, she was a seamstress at several knitting factories. Mrs. Scribner was known as an excellent cook and enjoyed making clothes for her children when they were young.Katie spent her entire life devoted to her family and to the care of others. She was a Christian woman of great faith, unending compassion and unfailing forgiveness, acceptance and love. All who know her will miss her humor, her laughter, and her beautiful, everlasting spirit. She will live forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Bub of Brentwood; Judy Scribner (Carolyn Ball) of Columbia; Katie Denise Scribner Breland of Columbia; and Phyllis Scribner of Columbia; son, Robert Scribner of Columbia; grandchildren, Ginny (Dave) Pierson; Kim (Billy) Matlock; Justin Attkisson; Brandon Attkisson; and Chrissy Ball Rupelt; great grandchildren, Katie Gilbert; Mac Massey; Caleigh Attkisson; Chase Attkisson; Taylor Matlock; Jon Ball; and Kaylynn Rupelt; adopted daughter, Terri Thompson; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in by death two brothers; three sisters; granddaughter, Michelle Fair; grandson, Robert Fair, II; and son-in-law, Dale Bub.Active pallbearers will be Justin Attkisson, Brandon Attkisson, Ronnie Attkisson, Dave Pierson, Billy Matlock, and Frank Bellamy. The family would like to express special thanks for the loving and compassionate care given to Katie by the doctors and nurses of Maury Regional ICU Step Down Unit.
