Cothran, 59, former president of Kernie Cothran Well Drilling and resident of Mayflower Dr., died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4- 8 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Kernie Holt Cothran and Marie Hardison Cothran White. He was a 1967 graduate of Columbia Central High School and and a 1972 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. He served in the Tennessee National Guard. Mr. Cothran was Past Exalted Ruler of Columbia Elks Lodge 686. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Chaney Cothran of Columbia whom he married August 16, 1969; daughter, Ann Marie (Matt) Schulz of Franklin; son, Kernie Benson Cothran of Murfreesboro; granddaughter, Kaylee Addyson Cothran; two sisters, Mrs. Gayle Mabry of Columbia, Mrs. Linda Griffin of Shelbyville; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ann Chaney of Columbia; brother-in-law, James Robert Chaney, Jr. of Venice, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Harry Mac Bryant, Rick Luna, Jim Thurman, David Dillehay, Ron Sellers, Farrell Long, Johnny Smith and John Gilbreath. Honorary pallbearers will be nurses and staff at Home Health Care of Middle Tennessee, nurses and staff at Life Care of Columbia, nurses and staff at Maury Regional Medical Center, Dr. William A. Robinson, II and Dr. Darrel R. Rinehart.
