Kenneth Carlton Latta Sr

Kenneth Carlton Latta, Sr., 80, owner and operator of John Thomas Grocery for several years died Saturday at his residence on Woods Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. He was a 1942 graduate of Spring Hill High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. Mr. Latta was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. He was a member of the Mule Town Rookies for over forty years, a longtime volunteer with the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and a charter member of the St. Thomas Hospital Cardiac Implant Device Association. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Jewell Rodgers Latta of Columbia, two sons, Kenneth Carlton (Bitsy Walker) Latta, Jr. of Lynnville; Steven Gary (Wanda Lentz) Latta of Columbia; one brother, Dewey (Bobbie Harmon) Latta of Columbia; one sister, Blanche Doreen Latta Dillard of Columbia; sister-in-law Doris Fischer of Pulaski; six grandchildren, Kristina Lynn Latta, Joshua Steven Latta, Kevin Sloan Latta, Keith Carlton (Rebecca Minter) Latta, John Howard (Shannon Swider) McFarlin, and Katie McFarlin Satterfield; three great grandchildren Andrew Edward McFarlin, Hunter Harrison Satterfield, and Adelia Nicole Latta; nieces and nephews, Patty Latta Hawraneck, Connie Latta, David Latta, Grant Dillard, Lorena Gray Ensley, Jane Fitzgerald, Johnny Rodgers, Jimmy Rodgers, Carolyn Hickman, Jean Smith, Tommy Cook, Cindy King, Rosemary Bone, Delilah Speed, Tommy Speed, Jennifer Barrier, Cliff Loftin, Candice Collier, Jeffery Collier, Roby Davidson and Rodger Demastus. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Christopher "Chris" Latta on February 1, 2002. and one brother, Shirley Woodard Latta on November 20, 2004. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Latta, Keith Latta, Josh Latta, John McFarlin, David Latta, Grant Dillard, and Tommy Cook.
