Mrs. Ladye White Stevenson, 97, resident of Porter Circle, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Gary Wedgewood officiating. Burial will be in Elkton Cemetery in Giles County. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of the Prospect Community in Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Ed C. White and Daisy Reed White. She was educated in Giles County schools and was a graduate of Martin College in Pulaski. She was married June 24, 1934 to John A. Stevenson. They moved to Santa Fe in 1935, when Mr. Stevenson became agriculture teacher at Santa Fe High School, a position he held until his retirement in 1971. He died October 19, 1990. Mrs. Stevenson taught private piano lessons in her home for many years. In recent years she was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and a former member of Santa Fe United Methodist Church which she served as pianist for many years. Survivors include two sons, Russell Stevenson of Columbia and John White (Dalys) Stevenson of Carlsbad, California; two sisters, Bobbie White Williams of Columbia and Martha Sarah White Hughes of Birmingham, Alabama; three grandchildren, Alex Stevenson, Sandy Stevenson, and Michael Stevenson; a great-grandson, Matt Stevenson; a nephew, David Williams of Columbia and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances (Bitsy) White Elder and three brothers, Owen White, Ed White, and Myron (Tweed) White. Pallbearers are David Williams, Michael Stevenson, Bill Ammons, Joe Frank Williams, Marlin Arnold, and Todd Johnson.
