Lana Faye Beaver McCandless, 66, retired beautician and longtime resident of Sunrise Avenue in Culleoka, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Doug Brown, Bobby Hollis, and Mike Jett officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Howard Eugene Beaver and Bobbie Faye Green Beaver. She was a 1968 graduate of Culleoka High School, where she was active in many school activities including cheerleading. After high school graduation, she worked as an Advance Technician at Maury County Hospital. She then pursued her true passion, graduating from Maury Beauty School in 1977, after which time she owned and operated Fifth Avenue Beauty Salon for twenty-two years. Then for fourteen years she was associated with Hair It Is, and many years with Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Lana was former President of Culleoka PTA and Secretary of Culleoka Boosters Club. While serving as Chairman of Culleoka Summer League & Ballfield, she was instrumental in organizing the first Old Timers' Day. She was very proud of the book "A Century of Culleoka Memories" published in 2006, which she helped compile with Sylvia Hobbs Gray. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brent & Cassie McCandless of Lynnville; grandsons, Jackson McCandless and Cayden McCandless, both of Lynnville; brothers, Howard "Denny" (Vickie) Beaver of Culleoka and Timothy "Tim" (Teresa) Beaver of Columbia; nieces, Julie (Steve) Jones of Oregon and Tiffany Beaver of Columbia; nephews, Howard Dennison Beaver of Columbia, Timothy Beaver of Murfreesboro, and Chad (Michelle) Beaver of Seattle, Washington; several great nieces and great nephews; and special friends, Mary Davidson and Sheila Matthews. Active pallbearers will be Dennis Beaver, Austin McKinney, Chris Jett, Timothy McCandless, Phillip McCandless, Mike Jett, Timothy Beaver, and Duck Sharp. Honorary pallbearers will include former customers of Hair It Is.The family expresses a heart felt thank you to her nurse, Antonio Sanchez, and the staff of Hospice Compassus for their amazing care and kindness.
