View Funeral Webcast Larry Levan Cheatham, 81, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Peery and Brother Doug Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family requests to adhere to CDC Guidelines of social distancing and recommends facial covering while attending the funeral services. Born July 28, 1938 to James Whitthorne and Anne Cathey Cheatham, who are deceased. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1956. Larry was a salesman for ACME School Supply for 40 years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Eloise Harlan Cheatham. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. Larry was also a member of Bethany Sunday School Class, the Sanctuary Choir and Men’s Fellowship Group. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steve (Barb) Cheatham of New Braunfels, Texas; and Scott (Amanda) Cheatham of Gadsden, Alabama. Also surviving are a brother, Ray (Shirley) Cheatham of Summerville, South Carolina; sister, Cathey (Mark) Mayberry of Knoxville, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Sue Harlan of Columbia, Tennessee; stepchildren, Gregg (Amy) Dabney of Knoxville, Tennessee; Lynn Dabney of Nashville, Tennessee; Dr. Carole Dabney- (Martin) Smith of Oxford, Ohio; and Harlan (Amy) Dabney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His surviving grandchildren are Sydney Cheatham of Austin, Texas and Cody Cheatham of New Braunfels, Texas; step grandchildren, Savannah (Chris) McCabe and Rena Dabney of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Allie Dabney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Cheatham; brothers-in-law, Bill Harlan and Pete Harlan; and sister-in-law, Irma Harlan. Pallbearers will be Mark Mayberry, Gregg Dabney, Harlan Dabney, Martin Smith, Buddy Harlan, James Harlan, Brian Holt, and Larry Burke. Honorary pallbearers include members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Doug Brown, Ashley Brown, Mary Eleanor Morrow, Bill Lakey, Nancy Cartwright, Sandra and Jerry Thurman, Della and Gerald Matlock, Pam and Don Thurman, Ken Harlan, Gary Holt, Pat and John Wakefield, Pam White, Elaine Ashley, and Charlotte and Jeff Graham. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1106 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
