Larry M. Smith, 67, retired co-owner of Smith Brothers I-65 Shell Station, retired Maintenance Director of Tennessee Farm Bureau, and resident of Cheairs Circle, died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was a member of Blooming Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Broadway Smith of Columbia; one daughter, Sheila Smith (Rick) Swayze of Thompson Station; three grandchildren, Brandon Swayze, Chase Swayze, and Brittany Swayze, all of Thompson Station; one sister, Elaine (Doug) Jett and daughter, Amanda Jett of Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Smith, Dan Smith, and Carroll Smith. Pallbearers will be Winfield Williams, Rick Swayze, James H. Walker, Jr., Mac Palmer, Jackie Case, Jerry Case, Mike Case, and Tommy Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Williams, Dr. James Richardson, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Dr. Dan Skarzynski, Dr. Grant Barr, and employees of Dialysis Center of Columbia.
