View Funeral WebcastMrs. LaRue Vaughn Pryor, 86, retired teacher, wife of CSCC Past President Dr. Harold S. Pryor, and resident of The Bridge, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Life Care Center. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Williamson and Rev. Maggie Beamguard officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. in the church parlor. Private graveside services were at Polk Memorial Gardens. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Buchanan, Tennessee, native was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. K. A. Vaughn. She was a 1939 graduate of Buchanan High School and earned a B.S. Degree in 1945 and a M.A. Degree in 1954 from Austin Peay State University. Her teaching career spanned twenty-three years at high schools in Georgia and throughout Tennessee. Eighteen of those years were spent teaching music at Clarksville High School. In 1957 she was editor of Tennessee Musician and in 1978 was editor of the first James K. Polk Cookbook. An avid supporter of the visual arts, Mrs. Pryor was honored by the LaRue V. Pryor Art Gallery at Columbia State Community College. Mrs. Pryor's professional memberships include Tennessee Education Association, Tennessee Vocal Music Association, National Vocal Music Association, National Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi, National Music Educators Association, and Tennessee Music Association. She was Past President of The Students' Club, a member of the James K. Polk Memorial Association, and Past President of The Quaestio Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for a number of years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a niece, Mrs. Linda Fain of Murray, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lillian Dunn. Honorary pallbearers will be John Satterwhite, Jr., Houston Parks, Brian Williams, Ed Harlan, Dick Green, Aubrey Flagg, Greg Martin, Judge Robert Holloway, Charles Sanders, Dr. & Mrs. Cuylar Dunbar, Dr. & Mrs. Jerry Battles, Mr. & Mrs. Waymon Hickman, Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Moore, Mr. & Mrs. Randy Stevens, Dr. Rebecca Hawkins, Dr. & Mrs. William Fuqua, members of the Students' Club, members of the The Quaestio Club, and Elders and Deacons of First Presbyterian Church.
