LAURA THURMAN Mrs. Laura McMillen Thurman, 87, a former resident of Cheyenne Trail in Columbia, died peacefully, November 9, 2003 in Inverness, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wayne Hardison and Bobby Sands officiating. Burial will be in Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville, Tennessee. The family will visit with friends Wednesday after 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The Cannon County native was the daughter of the late Charles McMillen and Ada Williams McMillen. She was married for nearly fifty years to Clayton H. Thurman who preceded her in death February 12, 1985. She was a graduate of Lascassas High School and was formerly employed at the "old coffee shop" at Maury County Hospital and the Jack and Jill Shop. She was a member of Northview Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Susie (Bill) Phillips of Inverness, Florida and Ms. Melanie Thurman of Goodlettsville; son, Charles Thurman of Ocala, Florida; granddaughter, Laura Phillips (Chuck) Porter of Decatur, Alabama; nephew, James Thomas McMillen of Corpus Christi, Texas; great-niece, Rachel McMillen Geir of Houston, Texas; great-nephew, Shane McMillen of Corpus Christi, Texas; and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Cameron of Waco, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim McMillen. Pallbearers will be Dan Batey, Lyle Worsham, Sammy Hickman, Danny McDonald, Morton Damron, W.A. Harris and Wayne Lyles. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of Northview Church of Christ and Elders and Deacons of Berea Church of Christ.
