Lecil Jerry Smith, 71, retired line supervisor for Peterbilt, died Tuesday, March, 5, 2024 at his residence.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, March 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Jeff Kane officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Online condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Jerry was born on March 19, 1952 in Jasper, Alabama to the late Lecil Andrew Smith and the late Jessie Beatrice Malone King. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1970 and attended Columbia State Community College for two years. Jerry was drafted in 1972 and served three years in the United States Army. He worked for nineteen years for General Electric and twenty years for Peterbilt. He had a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Karate, a member of the American Legion Post 19 and a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his children, Jamie Smith and Jeremy Lance (Rachel) Smith both of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Jim (Geneva) Miller of Unionville and Danny (Letha) Smith of Columbia; four grandchildren, Alexia (Kallee) Angus, James Brennan Angus, Calliann Smith and Emmalyn Smith; one great grandson, Costa Angus; and five nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Diane Smith.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
