Lela Emma Duncan Grimes

Mrs. Lela Emma Duncan Grimes, 97, resident of the Swan Creek Community for 93 years, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at her Columbia residence. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m.at Oakes & Nichols with Donald Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee Children's Home, P.O. Box 10, Spring Hill 37174 or Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Hickman County native was the daughter of the late Tobb Duncan and Tabitha George Duncan and a long-time member of Salem Church of Christ. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mary (Max) Johnston of Brentwood, Dot (Glen) Mayfield of Columbia, and Nina (Sam) Whiteside of Hampshire; a son, Junior (Peggy) Grimes of Nashville; a brother, Howard Duncan of Centerville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Brian Mayfield, Tommy Grimes, Jimmy Grimes, Terry Whiteside, Paul Whiteside, and David Duncan.
