Lemuel A. Estep, 88, retired from Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Hilltop Drive, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery in Giles County with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the son of the late Charles Harrison Estep and Lillie Pearl Swinney Estep and attended Beech Hill High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and attended the Baptist Church. Mr. Estep loved to fish whenever he could, feed the squirrels, and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He was married December 31, 1947 to the former Dorothy Mae Paul. Mrs. Estep died March 5, 1986. Survivors include five sisters, Dorothy Prosser, Loyce Shaw, Joyce (Norris) Shaw, all of Pulaski, Geneva (Gene) Guess of Wesson, Mississippi, and Gladys Brown of Chapel Hill; a brother, Lawrence (Ruth) Estep of Racine, Wisconsin; and special friend, Roberta Kirk of Columbia. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Harris, Bernice Holland, and Martha Ellen Gosnell; and four brothers, Herman Estep, Roscoe Estep, Edward Estep, and Wayde Estep. Active pallbearers are Wayne Holland, Phil Estep, Jeff Shaw, Randall Shaw, Chester Morris, and William Earl Reed. Honorary pallbearers include Ross Beckham, Jim Parnell, Glenn Estep, Wayne Sharp, Nathan Sharp, and James Sharp.
