Mr. Leo Adams, 88, longtime resident of the Athendale Community, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church with Pastor Earl Davis and lay speaker Thomas Culberson officiating. Burial will be in Godwin Chappell Cemetery in Athendale. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4- 7 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Thursday from 10 - 11 at the church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Madison, Kentucky native was the son of the late Lewis Adams and Martha King Adams. He moved from Kentucky as a young man first living in the Kedron Community and later moved to the Athendale Community where he was a farmer and cattleman and drove a school bus for Maury County Public Schools for many years. He was an active member of Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church where he served in several official capacities. Leo is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Charlotte Harris Adams of the Athendale Community; one son, Edward Lewis Adams of the Athendale Community; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jacobs of Milan, Elsie Adams of Donelson, Juanita Adams of Columbia; several cousins in Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Derryberry, Fannie B. Crigger and two brothers, Earnest Adams and Doug Adams. Pallbearers will be Eldridge McMeen, Freeland McMeen, Carl Sellars, Perry Upshaw, J.W. Slaughter, Wally Beasley, Joe Tomlin and Wayne Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Santa Fe Charge of United Methodist Churches.
