Mr. Leon David Chambers, 92, former Maury County teacher and resident of Franklin, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at NHC Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David Sawyer officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will follow funeral service. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Room #330, 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115; the American Red Cross, 419 West 9th St., Columbia, TN or other charities. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Glendale, Arkansas native was the son of the late Lucian David Chambers and Maude Ellen Brown Chambers. He received his bachelor's degree at the University of Arkansas and his master's degree at Middle Tennessee State University. He was a teacher at Columbia Military Academy for many years as well as in Maury County public schools and at Columbia State Community College. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbia. He was a Master Mason with the Spring Hill Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Tennessee. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Louise Parham Chambers; two daughters, Judith Chambers (Tom) Taylor of Franklin and Edith Chambers (George) Botts of Rives; a sister, Marjorie Chambers Railey of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a brother, James Chambers of Samson, Alabama; two granddaughters, Laura Taylor (Mike) Smith of Franklin and Blair Taylor (Bernie) McEvoy of Nashville; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alton Chambers and a sister, Ewilda Chambers Hunter.
