Leonard Virgil Gibson, 75, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Westover Drive, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at NHC of Hillview. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Polk Memorial Gardens with Curtis Dowdy officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Willie Guy Gibson and Grace Pauline Johnson Gibson. Mr. Gibson was employed as crane and computer operator at Union Carbide for thirty-seven years and served as the Union Representative for several years. He was an avid fisherman at heart. Mr. Gibson was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Lillie Mae Skelton Gibson of Columbia; one daughter, Patricia Ann (Jerry Herman) Wright of Columbia; two brothers, Hal (Betty) Gibson and Melvin Gibson, both of Columbia; two sisters, Helen Faye (Richard) Reed and Eva Mae Crock, both of Columbia; one granddaughter, Ashley Nichole Wright (Jason Lee) Baker of Columbia; and one great granddaughter, Kaylee Nichole Baker of Columbia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Gibson and Willard Gibson.
