Leroy Gibson, 77, well-known Columbia businessman, farmer, founder and operator of Gibson Oil Company from 1956 to 1988, and resident of Tindell Lane, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Life Care Center. A Memorial Service will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Monday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in St. Peter's Parish Hall. He was a 1946 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Gibson was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and a former member of the Columbia Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnson Gibson, whom he married December 24, 1948; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay and Samuel Hardy Duerson, III of Lynchburg, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Leroy and Cynthia Gibson of Columbia; five grandchildren, Virginia Tyler Duerson, Sarah Gordon Duerson, Brandon Paul Gibson, Charles Leroy Gibson and Jeffrey Lane Gibson; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Carlton and Freda Gibson of Columbia.
