Mr. Lewis Lawrence Breland, 85, retired farmer and minister and resident of Columbia and former resident of Charleston, Mississippi, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday at Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston, Mississippi with Rev. Shelley Scallions officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4- 8p.m. at Newsom Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy in Charleston, Mississippi. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi he was the son of Louis Frank Breland and Margaret Idella Bradberry Breland. On June 2, 1939 he married Genophia Young Breland who preceded him in death December 16, 2005. He served as minister at a number of Church of God of Prophecys in Mississippi for many years. Survivors include one sister, Ola Mae Vanneste of Millington; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Steve) Downs Castleberry of Hampshire, Charles R. (Zojaim) Downs, Jr. of Coral Gables, Florida; one son-in-law, Charles R. Downs, Sr. of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Gregory Castleberry, Benjaman Castleberry, Savannah Kennedy, Samantha Castleberry, Stevie Castleberry, Charles R. Downs, III, Lance Lewis Downs and Kaylan Emily Downs. He was preceded in death by his only daughter, Emily Breland Downs. Pallbearers will be Roy Goodwin, Mike Stevens, Lonnie Dale Farmer, Carson "Jr." Little, David Breland, Dale Dorris and Steve Castleberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Dahl, Edwin Winters, Paul Adams, Bobby Adams, George Hackman and Claude Fox.
