Lila Haislip Garrett

Lila Haislip Garrett, 83, retired CPA for Union Carbide, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at her residence on Maple Court. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Reverend Paul Joiner officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.The family suggests memorials be made to Zion Christian Academy, 6901 Old Zion Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 7, 1934 in Maury County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Leonard S. Haislip and the late Aleene Hood Haislip. She was a 1952 graduate of Columbia Central High School. In 1953, she began her career with Union Carbide and retired in 1971. Mrs. Garrett was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Teresa "Terry" Lynn Butler of Columbia; step children, Pamela J. Garrett of Columbia; Ralph W. Garrett of Nashville; and step grandchildren, Jane Rodriguez (Mark) Keeton of Columbia; Nestor A. (Jacki) Rodriguez of Collierville; Alex (Nicole) Brown of Florence, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert R. "Bobby" Thompson in 1954; second husband, Roy Wilson Garrett in 1990; sisters, Juanita Haislip in 1989; Leona "Connie" Modell Haislip Butler in 1998; and niece, Dorothy "Tiny" A. Butler Caldwell in 2014.
